The brief:

Our client needed to update their shower room to a more practical and stylish look, however, the property was over 200 years old and as with most older homes, you uncover surprises when they are stripped out. Our client was concerned that tiles in other rooms had cracked due to movement and didn’t want the same to happen in this room, so we had to take a thorough approach. In this case, we employed a structural engineer to make an assessment when we found the joists were split during the strip-out.

    The solution:

Thankfully, our installation partner Complete Conversions are also able to carry out more than just bathroom installations, and the stripping of floor, walls and rebuilding work began in the bathroom, bedroom and dining room below.

Once completed, the team could move on to the bathroom, and work to the specification we had put together with our client. Quite early on in the planning process, they had chosen the blue tile to be used on the majority of the walls and had initially chosen a white tile to use alongside it. When looking at the blue tile in more detail, we loved the charcoal feature and very quickly the rest of the plan came together with a matching charcoal tile and complementary vanity unit in glossy anthracite.

Storage was also key in the room, and as well as rebuilding a storage cupboard within the room with new shelves and radiator, we also included a large mirror cabinet to span the wall above the basin and WC. Along with the vanity unit under the basin, this gave a great combination of towel and toiletry storage areas to suit the client’s needs.

    Specification:

    • Villeroy & Boch Subway 2.0 Washbasin with Concept Vanity Unit in Gloss Anthracite
    • Keuco Plan Blue Basin Mixer
    • Keuco Royal Modular 2.0 Illuminated Mirror Cabinet
    • Zehnder Alban Stainless Steel Towel Warmer
    • Hansgrohe Ecostat E Shower Valve
    • Villeroy & Boch Avento WC
    • Mont Blanc Blue Tile
    • Villeroy & Boch Urban Jungle Charcoal Tile

    The outcome:

The outcome for our client was not only a beautiful bathroom but one with the reassurance of longevity. This came in not only the quality of the products, but also in the ability to use the room for many years with the addition of an antislip tray and grab rail, and structural soundness following the building works. Our client was thrilled with the completed room.
